Two people were killed in the Ukrainian Black Sea port city of Odessa in a confrontation between Moscow and Kiev with drones and rockets, local officials announced today.
Ukraine's air force said it shot down 10 of 14 drones and one of three missiles launched by Russia overnight, while the rest hit the outskirts of Odessa.
Odesa regional governor Oleh Kiper said the two dead were a married couple and that another person was wounded in the attack.
The Russian Defense Ministry said it shot down 29 Ukrainian drones over the western and southwestern regions and that there was no damage. It also stated that another Ukrainian drone was shot down this morning over the Ryazan region.
The latest attacks came after Ukraine issued a new call on Saturday to the West to allow it to use long-range missiles to hit targets deep inside Russia and as Ukrainian forces battle to halt Russian advances in eastern Ukraine.
Kiev officials argue that the weapons are vital to reducing Russia's ability to attack Ukraine and forcing it to withdraw its weapons away from the border.
