German authorities have arrested a Chinese national accused of passing information about Leipzig airport to a man suspected of spying for China, prosecutors said Tuesday.
The woman, identified only as Iaki Si under German privacy rules, was arrested Monday in Leipzig, federal prosecutors said.
She is suspected of providing the Chinese intelligence service with information about flights, cargo - including military equipment, and passengers.
She works for a company that provides logistics services, including Leipzig/Halle Airport, which is mainly a cargo hub.
The data, prosecutors say, primarily includes information on the transport of military equipment and people associated with a German defense company, which they did not identify.
Yesterday, the judge ordered the custody of the accused pending the indictment, and her apartment and workplace were searched.
Prosecutors alleged that between August 2023 and mid-February this year, she repeatedly passed information to Jian Guo, a German national arrested in April who was an associate of far-right MEP Maximilian Krach.
Prosecutors said Guo was accused of working for China's intelligence service and repeatedly leaking information about negotiations and decisions in the European Parliament. He also followed Chinese dissidents in Germany.
In another similar case, three Germans were arrested in April. They are suspected of spying for China and arranging the transfer of information on technology for potential military use.
