Russia's Defense Ministry said on Wednesday that its air defense systems repelled a Ukrainian drone strike early on October 8, shooting down 16 drones, Radio Free Europe (RSE) reports.
Fourteen drones were shot down over the territory of the Belgorod region, which borders Ukraine, and two others were destroyed near the Russian coast of the Black Sea, the ministry said in a message on Telegram.
A day earlier, Ukrainian drones reportedly targeted a fuel depot in Feodosia, the largest such facility in occupied Crimea, causing a major fire and the evacuation of hundreds of residents.
The Ukrainian army announced today that Russia launched two Iskander-M ballistic missiles and 19 drones in a night attack, and that the air force shot down 18 drones, while the last one returned to Russian territory, Reuters reports.
Russian forces used drones and missiles in an attack on the southern Odesa region, the air force said on the Telegram messaging app.
Odesa regional governor Oleh Kiper said that a drone attack on the city of Chernomorsk caused fires on three floors of a residential building, but that there were no casualties.
It also caused a fire, which has now been extinguished, at an administrative and production building in Odesa district, he added, while one drone fell in an open area without detonating.
