Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has again called on allied countries to allow Kiev to use advanced Western weapons to strike deeper into Russia, following Russian attacks on Kharkiv that killed at least two people and wounded at least 34 others.
Russian forces allegedly used a FAB-500 guided aerial bomb in an attack on a nine-story building in Khakriv, Ukraine's second largest city.
It is a powerful bomb that Moscow is increasingly using in the war against Ukraine.
"The news is tragic. There are victims, including a child, while more people are probably under the rubble," Zelenski wrote on the X network.
Kharkiv Governor Oleh Sinjehubov said that the fourth floor of a building in the Saltiv neighborhood was targeted.
Russian attacks on Kharkiv are the third this week.
At least four people were killed in earlier attacks on the city center and the Osnovjanski neighborhood in which guided aerial bombs and missiles were used.
"Partner countries see what is happening every day," Zelensky wrote, adding, "under these circumstances, each of their delayed decisions means dozens or even hundreds more Russian bombs to be used against Ukraine."
For the second time, Ukraine is asking Western countries to allow it to use long-range missile systems such as the British Storm Shadow cruise missiles or the American ATACMS (Army Tactical Missile Systems) to attack military targets deeper inside Russian territory.
However, the United States, Great Britain and other countries have so far rejected Kiev's request, arguing that the permission would lead to an escalation of the conflict.
