The European Union (EU) welcomed the victory of Donald Trump in the elections for the President of the United States of America (USA) with restraint and division, and the main assessments of the media and analysts are that now America is moving even more strongly "into a world that Trump sees only through the focus of American national interests". from trade to the war in Ukraine, which can now fall entirely on the shoulders of Europe.
This is assessed by many media, such as the French newspaper "Mond", which states that "Trump sees the world as a balance of power in trade wars and despises multilateralism" and concludes, moreover, that this is "the end of an American world".
In all analyses, it is emphasized that Trump's return to the White House represents a major turning point for the USA and the end of the road that has been followed since the end of the Second World War, which means a departure from the American superpower, open and engaged in the world with the aim of strengthening democracy, and not authoritarian regimes.
There is a great danger, as it is thought, that Europe will be hit and torn apart by Trump's policy of economic closure, raising tariffs on imports and especially reducing, withdrawing from the European defense system, including the agreement with Moscow on the suspension of the war in Ukraine.
"The Europeans are simply not ready for it", is the warning of the German website "Eurointelligence", which suggests that the security of the old continent is now in danger.
"The danger of a division, a split in Europe is quite palpable in that perspective," adds "Mond" and says that "it is a danger to the survival of the European Union...for which the leaders in the European Union were very late to adequately prepare."
The Italian daily "Corriere della Sera" notes that some leaders in the EU welcomed Trump's victory strongly and others with restraint, and suggests that "this is happening at a time of great weakness of the European Union, which has to face its lags on the world chessboard - from defense to a common vision of industrial development to avoid the 'silent agony' identified by (former European Central Bank Governor Mario) Dragi".
Trump said that he will reduce the US military and war expenses, and further demand that Europe spend more on its defense and "Couriers of shit" notes that two and a half years since the war on its borders, the EU is not able to create even a germ of European defense. , "so that close to 200 billion euros of European money for Ukraine does not at all guarantee that defeat could be avoided there".
The general view in European analyzes is that Trump seems intent on starting a major trade war, disastrous for the world economy, and especially for EU exports to the American market.
Trump also boasts that he can bring about a quick end to the war between Russia and Ukraine.
"But at the cost and to the detriment of whom," asks the Spanish newspaper "Periodico", "and it is clear that this means that there will be a discussion about the role of NATO as a guarantor of European security and the role of the USA".
