The German Federal Prosecutor's Office announced that an American citizen who allegedly spied for China was arrested today.
The office announced that the suspect, Martin D., was arrested in Frankfurt and that his house was being searched.
The defendant, who until recently worked for the US military in Germany, is suspected of agreeing to work as an intelligence agent for the Chinese secret service.
Earlier this year, he contacted the Chinese administration and offered to pass classified information from the US military to Chinese intelligence, according to an investigation by German intelligence.
He received this information while working in the US Army, according to the prosecutor's statement.
