The Chief of the General Staff of the Polish Army, General Wieslaw Kukula, warned today that if peace is agreed upon in Ukraine soon, as promised by the US President-elect Donald Trump, Russia can rebuild its armed forces even before 2029 and be ready for a conflict with NATO even earlier.
"Russia has demographic potential and raw materials, and most importantly, a military industry that functions well not only when there is war, but at the same time develops the defense potential of the country. The end of the conflict in Ukraine will greatly facilitate Russia's reconstruction and strengthening of the armed forces," said the general. Kukula to the Polish newspaper Žečpospolita.
A recent forecast by German generals foresees the possibility that Russia will be ready for a new war and conflict with NATO as early as 2029, while the Polish general believes that ending the war in Ukraine will shorten that deadline, but that it does not depend only on Moscow's readiness.
"War is a real threat. Whether and when war will break out depends to a certain extent on us. An attack on a country that is ready to defend itself and whose population is ready to fight is a huge risk. Aggression is always fueled by weakness," he said. is a Polish general.
Kukula said he was convinced that the Allies would not leave Poland in the lurch to defend itself if attacked by Russia or Belarus.
"Yes, I am sure. NATO is a completely different organization today than it was 10 years ago. It is certain that we will not defend ourselves," said Kukula.
According to the Chief of the General Staff, Poland would certainly immediately come to the aid of the Baltic countries if they were attacked by Russia.
"NATO works like that. Poland's security starts in Estonia and the other Baltic countries. The fight for every centimeter of the alliance's territory is crucial for NATO's credibility. It should also be remembered that the defense of the Baltic countries is not possible without Poland, because it is the only land connection of those countries. with the rest of the alliance," said Kukula.
