About 3,2 million tablets of the counterfeit medicine "Kaptagon" used as a drug were seized in southern Turkey near the border with Syria, the Turkish police announced today.

Syria is considered the main producer of this drug from the group of "amphetamines" (phenethylin), which is traded throughout the Middle East.

The authorities did not specify whether the seized drugs were supposed to pass through Turkey or whether they were all sold there.

Interior Minister Ali Jerlikaja said today that 9,9 million "captagon" tablets were seized during the first ten months of this year.

In the same period, 25 tons of "methamphetamine", another stimulant from the amphetamine family, very popular in Turkey, was seized, the minister said.
