The Ukrainian authorities announced early this morning that a major attack had been carried out on the country's energy infrastructure, as a result of which they had to introduce emergency power cuts, including in Kiev, where temperatures are close to zero.
"Once again, the energy sector is under great attack from the enemy," the Ministry of Energy announced on Facebook.
Power outages were introduced in Kyiv, Odesa, and Dnieper, operator DTEK announced.
An air alert was declared for the entire country, and the Ukrainian Air Force announced that missiles were directed at the Odesa region in the south, Kirovohrad in the center, Kherson in the east and Mykolaiv in the south.
On Tuesday, Moscow announced a response to two Ukrainian strikes by American ATACMS missiles on Russian territory in the previous days.
Russia has been carrying out strikes on civilian zones throughout Ukraine since the beginning of the invasion of the country in February 2022, and has intensified them before the arrival of winter, targeting energy infrastructure in particular.
On the other hand, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that during the night it shot down 25 Ukrainian drones over the Bryansk region, as well as near Belarus, over Crimea and the southern Rostov region.
On the front, Moscow is making progress against the weakened Ukrainian army, less than two months after the arrival of the newly elected US President Donald Trump.
Yesterday, the administration of outgoing US President Joseph Biden called on Kiev to lower the minimum age for military mobilization to 18 from the current 25 to compensate for the shortage of soldiers.
This year, Kyiv has already lowered the age limit for mobilization from 27 to 25.
The White House specified earlier that American military aid will not be conditioned by a new lowering of the age limit for the Ukrainian army.
The call comes at a time when President-elect Trump could adopt a new approach and force Kiev to negotiate with Moscow.
