21 policemen were injured during the protests held on Sunday evening in the cities of Georgia, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) there announced.
"Exactly 21 police officers were injured, some of them seriously, during the protest on Sunday," the statement of the MUP states, adding that 224 people have been arrested since the beginning of the demonstration, which has been going on for several days.
Georgia, a former Soviet republic, has been in turmoil since parliamentary elections held on October 26, which were won by the ruling Georgian Dream party. However, the opposition condemned election irregularities and is boycotting the work of the new convocation of parliament.
The pro-Western president of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, who cut off contacts with the government, confirmed today that the pro-European mobilization has not shown "any sign of giving up".
The street demonstrations, which have drawn thousands of protesters for several nights in a row, were triggered by the government's decision to delay the country's ambitions to join the European Union until 2028.
