The head of Russian diplomacy today accused the West of orchestrating a "new cold war" which, as he assessed, threatens to move into a "warm phase", the state agency Ria Novosti reported.
"In order to return NATO to the political scene, after the Afghan debacle, we needed a unifying enemy. The solution was to revive the Cold War, only now there is a greater risk that it will move into a warm phase," Lavrov said before the participants of the Organization for European Security and Cooperation (OSCE) in Malta.
Head of Ukrainian diplomacy Andriy Sibiga called Lavrov a war criminal earlier today.
Sergei Lavrov arrived in Malta today, for his first visit to a country of the European Union (EU) since the beginning of the war in Ukraine in 2022.
The head of Russian diplomacy, who is under EU sanctions, has not visited the Union since his trip to Stockholm in December 2021, also for the OSCE meeting, according to Russian media.
