Explosions were heard in the city of Kerch in Crimea on the morning of December 6, and the bridge connecting the peninsula occupied by Russia was closed to traffic, local Telegram channels reported.
According to the Krymskiy Veter channel, explosions were heard in the area of the Zaliv shipyard.
The first explosions were reported at 07:00 local time, witnesses told Radio Free Europe.
The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that the Karch region is the target of air and drone attacks by Ukraine.
This ministry announced that Russian forces shot down the drone and sank two naval drones. Ukraine has not commented on these Russian claims.
Crimea.Realities, a reporting project of Radio Free Europe's Ukrainian service, reported that air defense systems were activated in the Kerch Strait during the attack.
Kerch is one of the largest cities in Crimea and is a key industrial, transport and tourist center.
Russia illegally annexed Ukraine's Crimean peninsula in 2014, and launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
Attacks in Crimea happen all the time, especially near the bridge.
A powerful explosion in October 2022 that hit the bridge led to a fire and the collapse of part of the bridge.
According to Russian reports, three people died in that incident.
