Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky today expressed his "deep gratitude" to Donald Trump "for his firm determination to end the war with Russia", after meeting with the newly elected American president in Paris.
French President Emmanuel Macron hosted the Zelenski-Trump conversation on Saturday at the Elysee Palace.
"The most important thing is that we work together to end this war, that is our top priority. At the meeting in Paris, we just focused on that," Zelensky wrote on the X network.
"I repeat my gratitude to President Macron for organizing this meeting, as well as my deep gratitude to President Trump for his firm determination to end this war justly," the Ukrainian leader added.
Trump previously stated that, when he comes to power, he will end the Russian-Ukrainian conflict that has been going on for almost three years in "24 hours".
This has raised concerns in Ukraine, which fears it will be forced to make significant territorial concessions to Russia in exchange for peace.
On Sunday, Trump called for an "immediate ceasefire", and wrote on his social network Truth Social that Zelensky is ready to "make a deal and end this madness".
