Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said today that he met with the director of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) William Burns in Ukraine.
"Burns has now visited Ukraine for the last time as director of the CIA," Zelensky said in a message posted on Telegram, adding that the two had many meetings during the war, but that most of them were not discussed in public.
"He and I had many meetings during this war and I am grateful for his help. Usually such meetings are not publicized, and all our meetings in Ukraine, in other European countries, in America and in other parts of the world, took place without official information Zelensky said.
The US is the most significant financial and military supporter of Ukraine in the war that began almost three years ago. Washington also regularly shared military intelligence with Ukraine to support its defense.
Burns is expected to step down as CIA chief after Republican Donald Trump takes office in January 2025.
