The German government announced today that the American billionaire Elon Musk is "trying to influence the parliamentary elections in Germany" scheduled for the end of February with his constant support for the far-right party Alternative for Germany (AfD).
"Ilon Musk is trying to influence the federal elections with his statements," Deputy Government Spokesperson Christiana Hoffman told reporters.
She added that Musk is "free to express his opinion", but noted that he is recommending a far-right party monitored by the German security service, which was confirmed by the judiciary.
Some "extreme right-wing" political movement can be the basis for police surveillance in Germany due to the possibility of undermining the constitutional order.
Previously, on December 28, the daily Welt reported a text in which Musk, the head of the X platform and the company SpaceX and Tesla, assured that the AfD is the "last glimmer of hope" for Germany and that the classification of that party as extreme right is "obviously wrong."
The richest man in the world thus repeated his position on the AfD from a tweet from December 20, which caused an outcry in Germany in the midst of the election campaign.
Musk has an increasing influence as a member of the future government of Donald Trump in the USA.
On November 8, after the collapse of the ruling coalition, Mask called the Social Democratic Chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz, "crazy", and on December 20, an "incompetent imbecile" after a car attack on the Christmas market in Magdeburg and called on him to resign.
