At least 20 people were injured today in a tram collision near a train station in Strasbourg, France, the prefecture announced.
"The initial toll is 20 lightly injured," said a prefecture spokesman, adding that the circumstances of the accident have not yet been clarified.
AFP reports that a security cordon has been established around the accident site and that there are many emergency vehicles in front of the station.
Eyewitness video posted on social media shows a chaotic scene and two badly damaged trams in the tunnel, at the station level. One of the trams appears to have derailed due to the collision.
Strasbourg was the first large French city to put trams back into service in 1994, and since then there have been no major accidents.
