The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs today condemned the new US sanctions on the Russian energy sector, claiming that the country will continue with large gas and oil projects.
The ministry stated that the sanctions are an attempt to damage the Russian economy "even at the cost of the risk of destabilizing the world markets as the end of the infamous term of President Joseph Biden approaches."
The statement of the ministry also states that Russia will respond to the "hostile actions of Washington", announced yesterday, reports Reuters.
"Despite the jerks in the White House and the machinations of the Russophobic lobby in the West, which is trying to drag the global energy sector into the 'hybrid war' launched by the US against Russia, our country was and remains a key and reliable player on the world fuel market," it is stated. .
This is the broadest package of US sanctions targeting Russian oil and gas revenues to date. These measures give Kiev and the new administration of Donald Trump the power to reach an agreement on ending the war in Ukraine, the agencies report.
The US Treasury Department has imposed sanctions on Gazpromneft and Surgutneftegas, which explore, produce and sell oil in connection with the war in Ukraine. 183 vessels that delivered Russian oil were also sanctioned.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the measures "will deal a significant blow to Moscow."
"The less income Russia has from oil, the sooner peace will be established," he said.
As part of the new package, the Oil Industry of Serbia (NIS), which is majority owned by Gazprom, was also sanctioned.
