Geopolitical rivalry between major players on the international stage has intensified, and the risks of a military conflict between nuclear powers are growing, Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu said in an interview with TASS.
"Amid heightened conflict behavior and intensified geopolitical rivalry, global risks of military confrontation between major actors, including nuclear powers, are increasing," Shoigu said.
According to him, Western countries have launched aggression against the ideology and values of Russia and Belarus, trying not only to act through economic sanctions, but also to destabilize the political situation in these countries.
This behavior of the West, as Shoigu claims, affects not only Russia and Belarus, but also the international situation as a whole.
"The WTO (World Trade Organization), WHO (World Health Organization), OPCW (Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons) and other international organizations are being actively devalued. Attempts are being made to undermine global efforts to prevent an arms race in space and to turn space into a new sphere of military confrontation," a senior Russian security official told TASS.
"These activities are directly aimed at weakening our countries, with the aim of depriving us of sovereignty and the right to choose our own path of development and pursue strategic interests," Shoigu concluded.
