Spanish police have rescued a man who was kidnapped and dragged into the trunk of a car after he managed to warn his girlfriend by sending her a photo of the vehicle's steering wheel and coordinates, the Guardian reports.
Spanish police officers in Malaga, in the province of Andalusia, received a report on January 23 that a man had been kidnapped two days earlier on a promenade in the town of Sabinillas.
The man was taken away by a group of men traveling in two cars who were seeking information about the whereabouts of another man who had apparently defrauded them of 30.000 euros in drug dealing.
Officers were also provided with video footage of the victim, which shows him face down and with a gun to his head as they asked him where the other man was.
However, unknown to his captors, the kidnapped man managed to contact his friends and send his girlfriend a photo of the logo on the steering wheel of the car he was traveling in.
He also sent coordinates that led police to a street in Torre del Mar, a town located up the coast from Malaga.
"Officers then immediately headed to the location, where they found a parked car matching the make and model of the vehicle in the victim's photo. They then discovered another vehicle in the same area, which matched one of the cars used in the Sabinillas kidnapping," the statement said.
Several hours later, police saw a man being taken from another nearby car and placed in the back of another vehicle.
"Seeing this happen, the police officers began to follow the vehicle, which was finally intercepted on the A7 motorway towards Malaga. The victim is unharmed and in good health, has been released, and four people have been arrested. Less than 16 hours passed from the report of the kidnapping to the rescue," the statement added. .
Police also stated that four people were arrested on suspicion of kidnapping, membership in a criminal organization, and illegal possession of firearms.
