The Russian military announced this morning that it had shot down 90 Ukrainian drones overnight, around 40 of them over the Sea of Azov, as well as one Neptune anti-ship cruise missile, and that there were no casualties.
The Russian Defense Ministry announced that during the night, air defense systems intercepted and destroyed 90 Ukrainian drones, and that a Neptune anti-ship cruise missile was also shot down over the Sea of Azov.
The drones were intercepted in eight regions, including 38 over the Sea of Azov, 24 in Krasnodar Krai, southwestern Russia, and 15 over the Crimean peninsula, which Russia annexed in 2014.
Russia announces almost daily that it has intercepted and neutralized Ukrainian drones launched towards territory it controls.
Kiev claims it is carrying out these actions, which are often aimed at energy installations, in response to Russian bombing of Ukraine.
The attack tonight comes as US and Russian Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin say they want talks to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
Yesterday, Donald Trump said that his meeting with Putin in Saudi Arabia could happen very soon and that Putin wants the fighting to stop.
Negotiations, also in Saudi Arabia, between delegations from the two sides are to take place before that meeting.
