Top Russian officials will hold talks with their American counterparts on restoring ties, Ukraine and preparing for a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump, the Kremlin said today.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Putin's foreign affairs adviser Yuri Ushakov would travel to Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, later today to take part in the talks, which will take place on Tuesday.
He said that the talks would primarily focus on "restoring the entire complex of US-Russian relations" as well as organizing possible talks on Ukraine and a meeting between the two presidents.
US President Trump's envoy Steve Witkoff told Fox News yesterday that he and the US national security adviser will travel to Saudi Arabia for talks on Ukraine.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio arrived in Riyadh from Israel today, where he is scheduled to meet with Russian officials and discuss ending the war in Ukraine.
A source close to the Saudi government told AFP today that the country will host a preparatory meeting between senior Russian and American officials on Tuesday for a summit between the Russian and American presidents on Ukraine.
The source said that US presidential advisor Mike Walz and special envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff will represent the US.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is leading a delegation to Saudi Arabia for talks with Russian officials in the coming days, seeking to end the fighting in Ukraine.
