Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said today that Turkey would be an ideal host for peace talks on Ukraine.
"Our country will be an ideal host for the likely negotiations between Russia, Ukraine and the US in the near future," Erdogan said after a meeting in Ankara with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky.
US President Donald Trump has launched a diplomatic initiative to quickly end the war through negotiations. "This approach coincides with the policy that Turkey has pursued for three years," Erdogan stressed.
He recalled previous initiatives by Turkey, which twice hosted talks between Moscow and Kiev in 2022.
Zelensky, for his part, criticized the Russian-American meeting in Saudi Arabia, calling it a meeting about Ukraine without Ukraine.
"Negotiations are now underway between Russian and American representatives. Again about Ukraine without Ukraine," Zelensky said, adding that tomorrow's trip to Saudi Arabia is because he has agreed with the authorities there to visit the country on March 10.
Zelensky said that negotiations on Ukraine should include the European Union, Great Britain and Turkey.
