French President Emmanuel Macron congratulated Friedrich Merz, the leader of the conservatives who won Germany's parliamentary elections, reaffirming their determination to "do great things" together.
"I just spoke to Friedrich Merz to congratulate him on his victory," Macron said, adding that he had also spoken to outgoing Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
"We are more determined than ever to do great things together," Macron added on his way to Washington.
The French president is scheduled to meet with US President Donald Trump today, and the talks will focus on the security of Ukraine and Europe.
Merz, leader of the conservatives who won the most votes in Germany's parliamentary elections yesterday, expressed his desire to form a government "as soon as possible" to face current international challenges.
