The winner of the parliamentary elections in Germany, conservative Friedrich Merz, called today for Ukraine to be included in peace talks to end the war on its soil, while the United States (US) is negotiating directly with Russia on the issue, without Ukraine.
"To achieve a just peace, the attacked country must be part of the peace negotiations," said the leader of Germany's conservatives, who is likely to be the next chancellor to replace Social Democrat Olaf Scholz.
In a message on the social network X, Merc called on Europe to bring Ukraine into a "position of strength" in these negotiations.
Today marks exactly three years since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
