The Kremlin has accused Ukraine of targeting residential buildings after Kiev launched the largest drone attack on the Russian capital to date, Reuters reports.
Ukraine carried out its largest drone attack on Moscow today, killing at least two workers at a meat factory, injuring 18 people and briefly suspending operations at four Moscow airports, Russian officials said.
There was also damage to residential buildings.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said: "All (defense) measures and actions were carried out in advance, on time. This allows for the protection of Moscow and the Moscow region, as well as many other regions."
Peskov said that visiting OSCE Secretary General Feridun Sinirlioglu was aware of the damage caused by the attack on Moscow.
"It is important that he was shown the consequences of the attack. But even more important is what the Kiev regime is targeting – residential buildings," Peskov said.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Ukraine's large-scale drone attack on Moscow is a sign that Russian troops are winning on the battlefield, Russian news agency RIA Novosti reported.
Kiev has not yet commented on the attack on Moscow, but it said Russian forces attacked Ukraine overnight with a ballistic missile and 126 drones, setting fire to a fuel depot and injuring at least two people in different parts of the country.
Ukraine claims that Russian missiles have repeatedly hit Ukrainian residential buildings since President Vladimir Putin sent tens of thousands of troops to Ukraine in 2022.
Both sides deny that they are deliberately targeting civilians.
