Russia should show support for a ceasefire agreement with Ukraine that leads to lasting peace, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said today after a virtual summit hosted by the United Kingdom.
"We reiterate our support for the Ukrainian ceasefire agreement. Now Russia needs to show that it supports a ceasefire that leads to a just and lasting peace," she wrote on the X platform.
The EC President thanked British Prime Minister Keir Starmer (Keir) for organizing a virtual summit with 25 other officials to keep up the pressure on Russia and secure a possible ceasefire in Ukraine.
In the meantime, we will support the strengthening of Ukraine and its armed forces. We will intensify Europe's defense efforts through the ReArm Europe plan, by increasing defense spending, added Ursula von der Leyen.
