London's Heathrow Airport, Europe's largest, was closed today due to a power outage caused by a fire in the city's electrical grid.
The airport operator said Heathrow would be closed until 21.59pm tonight, London time, to ensure the safety of passengers and staff.
A fire broke out at a substation in the western suburbs of London that also serves the airport, firefighters who have been on the scene since last night said.
A large number of households are also without electricity.
At Heathrow, which handles 1.300 takeoffs and landings daily and 230.000 passengers, disruption to flight schedules is expected in the coming days.
