French President Emmanuel Macron said today that it was too early to talk about lifting sanctions on Russia, imposed over its invasion of Ukraine, and added that everything would depend on whether Russia wanted to respect international law.
Macron said after talks with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky in Paris that European countries that want to send forces to Ukraine to monitor a possible ceasefire would have a "pacifist approach."
These contingents would not go to the front, nor would they go to fight in Ukraine, the French president said.
Macron is organizing a "coalition of the willing" summit with his Ukrainian counterpart in Paris tomorrow.
The Ukrainian president recently said about the announced summit that countries should be identified that would be ready to send a military contingent to Ukraine in the event of a ceasefire with Russia.
"Our task is to understand who is ready to provide security guarantees," Zelensky said.
