The United States of America (US) will not get Greenland, Greenland's Prime Minister, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, said on Sunday.
Reuters reports that Nielsen made the statement in a Facebook post in response to US President Donald Trump's statements that he wants to take control of the vast Arctic country.
"President Trump says the US is getting Greenland. Let me be clear: the US is not getting it. We don't belong to anyone else. We determine our own future," Nielsen said.
Trump told NBC News on Saturday that he had "absolutely" had actual talks about annexing the semi-autonomous Danish territory.
"We're going to get Greenland. Yes, 100%," Trump said, according to NBC.
During a visit to a US military base in northern Greenland on Friday, US Vice President J.D. Vance accused Denmark of not doing a good job of securing the island and suggested that the US should do better to protect the strategically located island.
