Five miners were killed and four injured in an accident at a coal mine in the northern Spanish region of Asturias on Monday, regional emergency services said, Reuters reported.
Two workers were uninjured.
Emergency services said a machine broke down at the Degana mine at 9:32 a.m. local time.
Three helicopters and two ambulances were dispatched to the scene.
Regional leader Adrian Barbon declared two days of mourning, and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez expressed his condolences to the victims' families via the social network X.
