US President Donald Trump's possible visit to Saudi Arabia, expected in the coming weeks, has nothing to do with Vladimir Putin, Dmitry Peskov announced today, adding that a meeting between the two presidents is not planned at this stage.
Trump said on Monday that he may travel to Saudi Arabia "as early as next month," which would be his first foreign trip since returning to the White House in January of this year.
The US president said in February that he would likely meet with his Russian counterpart in Saudi Arabia, without giving a specific date.
Saudi Arabia hosted recent talks by a US delegation on the conflict in Ukraine.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov already said on Monday that Trump's trip had nothing to do with Putin, and today he reiterated that the Russian president has no plans to do so.
"Nothing has been clearly established regarding the date and location of a possible meeting between Putin and Trump. We continue contacts at different levels and through different channels," Peskov said.
After returning to the White House, Trump has become closer to Moscow, although he occasionally criticizes and threatens his Russian counterpart.
The last meeting between Donald Trump and Putin was held in Helsinki in 2018.
