Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said today that Ukraine would respect the Easter ceasefire announced a few hours earlier by Russian President Vladimir Putin, but at the same time he accused Russia of violating it.
"If Russia is really ready to commit, Ukraine will do the same - its actions will mirror those of Russia," Zelensky wrote on the X network.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered a one-day Easter ceasefire in Ukraine, the Kremlin announced today.
The ceasefire, according to the Kremlin, will last from 18.00:XNUMX p.m. on Saturday, Moscow time, until midnight on the night between Sunday and Monday.
Zelensky proposed extending the ceasefire beyond April 20, but also pointed out that "Russian attacks continue on several sectors of the front."
The governor of the Kherson region, in southern Ukraine, reported that Russian drone attacks were carried out tonight after the start of the Easter ceasefire announced by Putin.
Governor Oleksandr Prokudin wrote on social media that at around 18pm local time, eight Russian drones set fire to apartments in a residential tower block, and that later that evening three drones attacked two villages, while the Ukrainian Air Force sounded airstrike alerts in several areas in eastern Ukraine.
Putin said today at a meeting with Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov that he was ordering all military activities to be suspended during the ceasefire period, adding that he assumed the Ukrainian side would follow Russia's example. Putin also said that the Russians must be ready to respond to "any possible violation of the ceasefire and provocations by the enemy."
