Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in Pretoria today that Kiev will not budge on recognizing Crimea as Russian, while the issue of the peninsula, which Moscow annexed in 2014, is at the center of renewed tensions with Washington.
"We are doing everything our partners have proposed, except for what contradicts our legislation and the Constitution," which stipulates that Crimea is part of Ukraine, Zelensky said at a press conference during a visit to South Africa.
The Ukrainian president has condemned the lack of "strong pressure" on Russia to force it to stop its invasion of Ukraine and accept an unconditional ceasefire on the battlefield.
"We believe that with greater pressure on Russia, we will be able to bring all sides closer to achieving an unconditional ceasefire," Zelensky said.
