French President Emmanuel Macron expressed hope today that Russian President Vladimir Putin will finally stop lying when he claims to want peace while continuing to bomb Ukraine.
"In Ukraine, we are waiting for only one answer to the question - whether President Putin agrees to an unconditional ceasefire," Macron said during a visit to Madagascar.
Macron said that Americans' dissatisfaction should be directed at only one person, and that is Putin.
The French president added that the priority must be an unconditional ceasefire in Ukraine, assessing that the status of Crimea, at the center of the impasse in the search for an agreement with Moscow, should not be the main issue now.
US President Donald Trump previously said that Crimea was already lost territory for Kiev, as the Black Sea peninsula had been annexed by Russia.
"The question of the status of the peninsula is not being raised in any case now, and it is not up to us to do that," Macron believes, adding that the ceasefire is the beginning of everything.
"All other issues are issues that fall within the peace negotiations that must then take place and which will take into account military positions, territorial and security issues," Macron said.
