A senior Russian military officer was killed in a car explosion that occurred in the morning hours in the Moscow region, Russia's Investigative Committee announced.
Committee spokeswoman Svetlana Petrenko confirmed that the deputy head of the Main Operations Directorate of the General Staff, Major General Yaroslav Moskalik, was in the vehicle when the explosive device detonated.
"The explosive device had a power greater than 300 grams of TNT," Petrenko told reporters in Moscow, Anadolu reported.
The incident followed the death of another senior Russian military official last year.
Igor Kirillov, the head of Russia's chemical, biological and nuclear defense troops, was also killed in a similar attack, for which Ukrainian intelligence services claimed responsibility.
Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, several Russian public figures, including war correspondents, have been killed in explosions believed to be the work of Ukrainian special services.
