Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and US President Donald Trump "agreed" to hold a second meeting today on the sidelines of Pope Francis' funeral, which they are both attending, after a first 15-minute conversation in St. Peter's Basilica, the Ukrainian president's spokesman told reporters.
Their first brief conversation was described as "constructive" by the Ukrainian president's right-hand man, Andriy Yermak.
"The leaders agreed to continue the talks today. The teams are working to organize the continuation of the meeting," spokesman Sergei Nikiforov said.
The Ukrainian presidency released a video of Zelensky and Trump sitting in conversation, and also of them talking in a four-person meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
Earlier, the White House and the Ukrainian presidency separately announced that the two presidents had a brief meeting before the start of Pope Francis' funeral, without providing details about the meeting.
White House Communications Director Stephen Cheng said the two "met privately today and had a very productive conversation," adding that more details would be provided later, the AP reported.
The Ukrainian presidency announced separately that US President Donald Trump and President Zelensky met briefly today in Rome on the sidelines of the funeral of Pope Francis.
"The meeting has been held and has already ended," Ukrainian presidential spokesman Sergiy Nikiforov told reporters, without providing further details.
