German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said today that Ukraine should not give up all territories occupied by Russia as part of a peace deal proposed by United States President Donald Trump in a bid to quickly end the conflict between the two countries.
"Ukraine has long known that a ceasefire or a lasting and credible peace agreement could entail territorial concessions," Pistorius said in an interview with ARD television.
According to him, these concessions should not go that far, at least not as far as the US president's latest proposal.
The US did not reveal details of the proposed agreement, but suggested freezing the front line and accepting Russian control of Crimea in exchange for peace.
The online news site Axios reported that the US plan presented to Ukrainian officials envisages "de facto" recognition of Russian occupation of the Ukrainian regions of Donetsk and Luhansk in the east, as well as Kherson and Zaporizhia in the south.
