Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced today that a summit of European leaders supporting Kiev is planned for Saturday in Ukraine.
"In Ukraine, we are also preparing to meet with the leaders of the coalition of the willing," he said during a speech at a meeting of the ten-nation Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) in Oslo.
"We will have meetings tomorrow," Zelensky added, without specifying which European leaders would be present. "We need this coalition, which must be strong enough to guarantee security in accordance with our common vision," the Ukrainian head of state added.
French President Emmanuel Macron has indicated that the meeting will be "partly virtual and partly physical." However, he did not specify whether he would attend the meeting in person.
The "Coalition of the Willing" brings together about thirty countries allied with Ukraine under the leadership of Paris and London. This alliance is working in particular to create forces with the aim of guaranteeing a possible ceasefire with Russia and preventing any new attack by Russia, which has been invading its Ukrainian neighbor since February 2022.
Europe has been trying to bolster its support for Ukraine since Donald Trump returned to the White House in January, having moved closer to Moscow in recent weeks, but several countries in the "coalition of the willing" are demanding that the US participate.
