The European Union formally adopted today the 17th package of sanctions against Russia, targeting the "shadow fleet", oil ships used to circumvent existing sanctions against Russian oil exports, announced the head of European diplomacy, Kaia Kalas.
"The EU has approved its 17th 'package' of sanctions against Russia targeting nearly 200 ships of its shadow fleet," she wrote on the X network, on the sidelines of a meeting of EU defense ministers in Brussels.
Kalas added that "other sanctions against Russia are in preparation."
"The more Russia wages war, the harsher our response will be," added the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
On May 14, the permanent representatives of the EU member states agreed on new restrictive measures against Russia.
