Germany and its partners are determined to defend the entire NATO territory, said German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
"Together with our partners, we are determined to defend the territory of the Alliance against any aggression. The security of our Baltic allies is also our security," Merz said during a visit to Vilnius.
He said this during the deployment of a German brigade in Lithuania, with the aim of strengthening the eastern wing of the Alliance.
Merz's visit comes ahead of a NATO summit in June, where allied leaders will set new goals for filling capacity gaps and consider how much members should spend on defense due to the war in Ukraine, Al Jazeera Balkans reports.
Speaking about the goals of the upcoming summit, he emphasized that it is necessary to strengthen European defense capabilities in the long term and expand the capacity of the defense industry.
Merck said Germany is investing significantly in its troops, with the deployment of 100 soldiers in Lithuania.
He also emphasized that NATO's unity is important in confronting Russia.
"We stand firmly with Ukraine, but we also stand together as Europeans as a whole and play as a team with the United States of America whenever possible," Merck said.
