The police have arrested four members of the family of an extremist who died in a failed attack on the French gendarmerie on the Champs-Élysées in the center of Paris, it was learned today from sources in the judiciary.
The attacker's ex-wife, as well as his brother and his wife, were arrested yesterday afternoon during a search of the family home near Paris.
The extremist's father was arrested in the evening during a search of his house, according to the same sources.
The man (31) who yesterday hit a French gendarmerie vehicle with his car had been a member of the "radical Islamic movement" since 2015 and was proud of it.
After the collision, the attacker's vehicle caught fire and then exploded. He died from his injuries while there were no injuries among the police officers.
A Kalashnikov, pistols and smoke bombs were later found in the car.
