The European Union approved 377 million euros of state aid from France and Germany for the development of a new Airbus helicopter. EU Competition Commissioner Margret Vestager said today that the aid would encourage private investment in the project and "bring a new generation of innovative heavy helicopter to the market" without distorting competition in the EU. Vestager said that the "X6" helicopter project exceeds the financing capacity of Airbus, which enables state aid. Airbus is a multinational company in which several European countries have stakes.
