One person was killed and at least 14 were injured when Russian drones attacked the Ukrainian Black Sea city of Odessa overnight, damaging high-rise buildings and railway infrastructure, local authorities and the prosecutor's office said.
Odessa, Ukraine's largest port on the Black Sea and crucial for imports and exports, has been under constant missile and drone attacks by Russia since the beginning of the war.
"Despite the active work of air defense, there was damage to civilian infrastructure, including residential buildings, a higher education institution, a gas pipeline, and private vehicles," local governor Oleh Kiper said on Telegram.
Kiper published photos of burning houses and blackened multi-story buildings.
The local emergency services said that at least 10 drone strikes on residential buildings were recorded during the attack, causing large fires.
The Ukrainian Air Force said on Friday that Russia had launched 86 drones into Ukraine overnight, Reuters reported.
Military sources say that air defense units shot down 34 drones, while 36 drones were reported as "lost" - referring to the use of electronic warfare by the Ukrainian military to divert them - or as simulated drones without warheads.
However, the military reported that drones had hit eight locations.
Ukrainian state railways Ukrzaliznytsia announced that the Odessa train station was damaged during the attack - power lines and rails were damaged.
Russian drones also attacked Kharkiv, in northeastern Ukraine, damaging several private homes and high-rise buildings, city officials said.
