The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Oleksandr Syrsky, announced the intensification of attacks on military targets deep inside Russia.
On June 1, Ukraine bombed several Russian airports, even thousands of kilometers from the border, after smuggling explosive drones into Russia.
Kiev said at the time that the attack, which destroyed dozens of planes, was retaliation against the Russian Air Force for its almost daily attacks on cities in Ukraine.
Syrian told reporters that such attacks would continue.
"Of course, we will continue. We will increase the scope and depth" of their operations on Russian territory, and indicated that Kiev would only attack military targets.
Diplomatic efforts to end the war sparked by Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 have stalled. The last meeting between the two sides was held almost three weeks ago, and no next one has been announced.
Kiev believes that Moscow is sabotaging the peace agreement to seize more Ukrainian territory.
This armed conflict, the most intense in Europe since World War II, has lasted for more than three years and has left tens of thousands dead on both sides.
Ukrainian authorities said today that one man was killed in Russian airstrikes in Kherson in the south, and according to a new report, four people were killed in an attack overnight in Kramatorsk, in the east.
Despite heavy losses, Russian forces are advancing, facing increasingly smaller and poorly equipped Ukrainian forces.
Lieutenant General Sirsky acknowledged that Moscow has advantages in drone production and warfare.
The Ukrainian military has launched multiple offensives against Russia since the 2022 invasion, and in August 2024 captured hundreds of square kilometers in the Russian border region of Kursk, which it held until the spring of this year.
Syrsky said Ukraine still holds 90 square kilometers in the region, which Russia denies.
As Russia attacks neighboring Ukraine's Sumy region, Syrsky said his military has "stopped" those operations.
Moscow occupies about a fifth of Ukraine's territory and has annexed four of its regions, in addition to the Crimean peninsula, which it annexed in 2014.
