The French government wants to abolish two of 11 official public holidays to "make the country as a whole more active," Prime Minister Francois Bayrou said today, presenting measures to improve public finances.
Bajru proposed abolishing the Easter Monday holiday, stating that it has no religious significance.
He proposed that May 8, Victory Day in World War II, be abolished as a non-working day.
Bajru said that the measure would bring several billion euros to the state budget.
