Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said today that the next peace talks between Moscow and Kiev are scheduled for Wednesday, after two previous meetings held in Istanbul without much success.
"I spoke with (Secretary of the Security Council of Ukraine) Rustem Umerov about preparing a new meeting in Turkey. Umerov indicated that the meeting is scheduled for Wednesday," Zelensky said in his daily address broadcast on social media.
Two consecutive meetings in Istanbul between Russian and Ukrainian delegations, organized under pressure from US President Donald Trump, have yielded little progress on a ceasefire, resulting only in the exchange of prisoners and the bodies of deceased soldiers.
During the latest negotiations in June, Russia again put forward demands, including the cession of four regions to Ukraine next to Crimea, annexed in 2014, as well as the renunciation of all Western military aid and Ukraine's membership in NATO.
Ukraine rejected these demands, considering them an ultimatum.
The Kremlin, however, expressed its willingness to continue negotiations with Ukraine, after Trump gave Russia 50 days to negotiate an agreement or face harsh sanctions and continued arms supplies to Kiev.
