Three people were killed and several others seriously injured when a passenger train derailed in southwestern Germany on Monday, police said, Reuters reported.
There were about 100 people on the train, police in the city of Stuttgart said, adding that two carriages derailed between the towns of Riedlingen and Munderkingen.
Reuters previously reported that German media, citing security sources, had reported that several people had died.
The agency reported at the time that a police spokesman in the city of Stuttgart could only confirm that several of the approximately 100 people on the train were injured and that at least two carriages had derailed near the town of Riedlingen.
The train was on a 90 km route between Sigmaringen and Ulm.
A photo published in German media shows the carriages derailed and overturned, Reuters reported.
