Russian Ambassador to Montenegro Alexander Petrovich Lukashik reacted to the article by the German "Spiegel" entitled "Fearless in the Land of Fear", published in "Vijesti" and on the Vijesti portal on August 10.
He said, among other things, that Russian law enforcement agencies cannot and do not have the right to follow the example of "those who want to place themselves above the law, to find themselves in an extralegal field in which they can behave as they please."
We transmit the reaction in its entirety:
"We have noticed a translation of an article from Der Spiegel magazine published in the newspaper Vijesti on August 10th of this year, in which the author mentions some aspects of the professional activities of lawyer Marija Boncler, attempting to present them as an illustration of a negative image of human rights in Russia.
The publication is obviously biased. Based on a number of isolated facts, which are presented tendentiously, an allegedly unsatisfactory state of affairs in ensuring the rule of law in our country is unequivocally indicated. We are forced to state that such materials about Russia, to our regret, have become a common occurrence for the editorial staff of your publication. It is sad that Vijesti journalists continue to ignore positive facts about the situation in the Russian Federation.
Meanwhile, as you know, despite the complex geopolitical situation and the colossal pressure that Moscow is experiencing due to illegally imposed sanctions, the country continues to develop steadily in all areas. This primarily applies to key sectors of the economy. These include space, the aviation industry, information and communication technologies, other high-tech industries, and infrastructure facilities. In terms of its economic potential, Russia has recently risen to fourth place in the world, leaving behind the largest EU countries, which have brought themselves to a dead end due to the sanctions policy.
It goes without saying that Russia is a de facto model of stability in terms of building harmonious interethnic and interreligious relations. The judicial system and mechanisms for ensuring law and order function reliably and in accordance with the legal framework. At the same time, in the context of the special military operation conducted by Russia, our enemies are haunted by its confident advance in all directions. That is why they are looking for all kinds of wormholes in order to harm the high authority of our country on the international stage.
We admit that not everything is ideal in Russia, but at the same time, the chronic tendencies of individuals who demonstratively violate the law should not be presented as serious shortcomings and shortcomings in the application of legislative norms by law enforcement agencies. As you well know, any deviation from the law must be suppressed. And our law enforcement agencies cannot and do not have the right to follow the example of those who want to put themselves above the law, to find themselves in an extralegal field in which they would behave as they please. Having crossed the boundaries of legal proceedings, they encounter a response that, without a doubt, fits not only into the concept of legality, but also justice. It is precisely these characters that are discussed in the material published in Vijesti.
For our part, we hope that the editorial staff of your publication will follow the events in Russia more carefully and impartially and bring readers objective information about our country. We understand that much does not depend on you. It is obvious that this is the need to follow not your own views, but advice from outside, which is not conditioned by a good relationship with Russia, but by the desire to arouse negative emotions towards it. This clearly shows your desire to fit in with those on whom, as you believe, the prosperous NATO present and EU future of Montenegro depend.
However, we must not forget that the vast majority of Montenegrins have sympathy for the Russians. They remember the centuries-old traditions of our friendship, common historical and cultural roots, the assistance that Russia has provided to Montenegro. We are sure that they have developed a strong immunity to all kinds of anti-Russian campaigns, which will not damage the relations between our peoples. We would be grateful if you would publish our reaction in one of the next issues of your publication," the response reads.
