Croatian President Zoran Milanović stated today that due to the interests of industrial circles, arms exports to Israel from the European Union have not yet been banned.
"The Israeli government has not stopped massacring people in Gaza and will not stop. We cannot stop it, but for our part we can ban the export of any lethal weapons from Europe to Israel," Milanović said at the Palace marking the 30th anniversary of the "Una 95" military operation, his press service reported in a statement.
He added that this is not happening because "there are interests of certain industrial circles in Europe that are not currently interested in car production, but are looking forward to producing grenades and bullets."
"That's fine, but not to export them to Israel," Milanović said, commenting on the announcement of sanctions against Israel due to the war in Gaza.
He emphasized that Europe, including Croatia, has a moral and political obligation to respond to the war in Gaza.
When it comes to sanctions against Israel, Milanović responded that they should already be in force, especially in relation to the current government in that country.
Milanović emphasized that the entire nation cannot be targeted.
"We will not hate the Israelis, but we will deal with their politicians and the people who are responsible for this violence and slaughter in Gaza," the Croatian president added.
He announced that Palestine will be a topic he will discuss in his address to the United Nations General Assembly in New York, because it is an issue of humanity.
"Croats as a nation, who have been silent in all sorts of ways, have a special moral responsibility to speak about such things and warn about them. And I see that as my mission and I will speak about it in New York," Milanović said.
Pointing out that he had spoken about this before, Milanović concluded that it was his "human and moral duty".
