The Kremlin assumes that United States President Donald Trump is still making efforts to reach a solution to the conflict in Ukraine, despite his statement that Russian President Vladimir Putin has let him down with his actions.
Trump has repeatedly expressed disappointment over Moscow's continued attacks on Ukrainian targets despite his efforts to find a solution. On Thursday, he said at a joint news conference with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer that Putin had "let him down."
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, quoted by Russia's state news agency RIA, said Trump's reaction was understandable, Hina reports.
"We assume that the United States, as well as President Trump personally, have retained the political will and intention to make efforts to facilitate a solution in Ukraine," RIA quoted Peskova as saying.
"So, of course President Trump is, let's put it that way, quite emotional about this topic. That's completely understandable."
Putin and other Russian officials have repeatedly praised Trump's efforts to find a solution to the Ukrainian issue and organize high-level meetings.
